It's a long hike to the second grade, so we
must work very hard together this year as we
climb our way up there. Follow the tips
below to help make your "hike" to 2nd grade
a successful one! |
|
|

|
|
"Tackle" your first grade work with a
positive attitude. Mrs. Reed's favorite word
is "TRY"! All of you are capable of
great things, so put your best effort into
everything you do! Focus on your work,
listen to your teacher, and ask questions
when you don't understand. |

Learning to read is an important first step in our
long hike to the 2nd grade. Remember to
"cast" out sounds to make new words. Learn
the sounds of the alphabet and the vowels.
Remember the long and short vowel rules to
determine what sound a vowel will make in a
word. Always "fish" for new books that
interest you and read, read, read! |

|
|
Make sure to get plenty of rest each night.
Homework should be completed early so that
you do not have to rush through it late at
night. A well rested child is more attentive
in class and ready to learn. |

 |
|
Wake up early enough in the morning to have
time to eat a well balanced breakfast.
Studies have shown that students who eat a
nutritional breakfast perform much better in
the classroom. Good Luck, and follow me as
we hike up the 2nd grade trail! |
