Hi! Welcome to our classroom site! My name is Linda Reed and I have been teaching first grade at Richardson Elementary for thirteen years. It has been said, that first grade is one of the most challenging grades to teach. Although I agree with that statement, I have to say that I also find first grade to be one of the most rewarding and exciting grades to teach. First graders tend to be very excited about learning and are very eager to please their teacher. Each day is like a new adventure as they are introduced to concepts and skills that are unfamiliar to them. I feel very lucky that I get to share in their excitement as we tackle each new discovery together. I love to watch their face light up each time they master a skill or discover a way to solve a problem. It is the defining moment in each teacher's life to look upon a child's face and realize that they have just experienced a "light bulb" moment. That wonderful moment in which a once unclear concept is suddenly clear, and their face will light up with a "Oh, now I get it!" look. Each year I look forward to the time when I can look around my room and realize my students are actually reading independently! It is such a great feeling to be a part of these momentous accomplishments in a child's life!
I believe that a strong parent/teacher team working toward the same goal, is essential in a student's academic development. A parent is a child's first and most important teacher. It takes both parents and teachers working together to ensure their first grader will have a positive and successful year. Communication is one of the keys to this success, so I welcome ideas and suggestions from parents. If you are a parent of one of my first graders, please feel free to e-mail me with comments or suggestions. My goal is to make each child's first grade year a year filled with lasting memories for both parent and child!
