I have really
enjoyed these first couple of days with your child. We have
been working very hard learning all the rules and routines of
first grade. I am so proud of how well my students are making
the transition from kindergarten to first grade. I have a
class of 27 students who appear to be very eager and excited
about learning. We start off each morning by working on
Calendar Math. So many math skills are covered as we work
on our calendar such as: patterns, numerical order,
before and after, more and fewer, counting by 10's, 5's and
2's, even and odd, place value, tally marks and many higher
order thinking skills. We also incorporate social studies and
science as we discuss the weather, the different seasons and
special dates such as Martin Luther King Day, President's Day
and other national holidays. When we put together our weather
sentence each morning, we are learning our language rules as
we sharpen our reading skills. The best part of all is that
the students are having so much fun, many do not realize that
this an educational activity! Although we work hard throughout
the rest of the day, we do have time for songs, stories,
snacks and recess! I want to take this time to thank you for
sharing your precious child with me and to remind you to give
your child a hug at the end of the day and let them know how
proud both you and I are of them!
Have a Wonderful
1st Grade Year!
